During 4 years' observations on lucerne fields, densities of wild bees were low: 59-340/ha. The density of honeybees was much higher, 2018-5890/ha, but they tripped and pollinated only about 1% of flowers visited, and seed yields were low. A forager returning to the hive with lucerne pollen in the proboscis fossa was assumed to have pollinated at least one flower; the percentage of such bees was higher in some colonies.
