Pot trials on the control of couch, Elytrigia repens (L.) Desv. and Holcus mollis L

Clonal differences were noted in shoot d.m. production by Agropyron repens which received glyphosate at 0.75 kg/ha in June (5- to 7-leaf stage up to earing); rhizome production, however, did not differ significantly between clones. Re-treatment after clipping markedly reduced regrowth. H. mollis was highly susceptible to glyphosate and a rate of 0.75 kg/ha applied to plants in early autumn after clipping resulted in hardly any shoot regrowth; the rhizome apices and terminal buds were dead.
