4 matched groups of 7 Russian Black Pied cows received in a preliminary 3-wk period maize silage, fodder beet, hay, straw and concentrates; and in a following 8-wk experimental period, group (i), control, continued on the same ration, group (ii) received instead of maize silage a vetch/oats mixture preserved with acetic acid, and groups (iii) and (iv) were fed as (ii) with addition resp. of 2 or 4 kg molasses daily/cow.
