Potential use of dip slides for microbiological quality control in the food industry

Potential use of dip slides for microbiological quality control in the food industry

Food Technology in Australia 28(4): 129-130, 156

The application of dip slides, normally used by medical bacteriologists, as a rapid method of assessing approx. microbiological quality of many foods and food processing operations, was investigated. In an oyster processing plant a rapid build-up of contamination in the wash water was shown within 15 min of the start of processing. Nutrient agar-McConkey agar combination is suited to water examinations and viable counts at 37 deg C and coliforms may be enumerated simultaneously.
