Pre-harvest sprouting resistance and associated components in 12 wheat cultivars

Ears of 6 red-grained and 6 white-grained wheat cultivars differing in pre-harvest sprouting resistance were collected 5, 15 or 25 days after harvest ripening, exposed to 2 h simulated rainfall and held for up to 7 days at 100% r.h. Grain alpha -amylase activity was determined 2 days after simulated rainfall. alpha -amylase activity was correlated with percentage sprouted grain in ears at that time and after 7 days (r = 0.58, 0.66 and 0.74 for each harvest date, respectively).
