The amount of fine litter produced and decomposed during the dry season (July-Nov.) in 1970 was measured in a neotropical seasonal evergreen rain forest near Manaus, Brazil. The amount of leaf litter increased by about 50% during the dry season, while other fine litter decreased by 12%. The theoretical amount of nutrients which could be released by decomposition of leaf litter during the dry season agreed well with measured amounts for N, P, K and Na and less well for Ca and Mg.
