The French table grapes industry is in a much worse position than the other fruit industries, because many operations cannot be mechanized and need much hand labour. On the other hand the table grape production units have usually recourse to virtually unpaid family labour. However, this does not entirely restore the profit margin and many of these family units will eventually disappear.
