Processing of fresh artichoke trimmings for use in animal feeds

Processing of fresh artichoke trimmings for use in animal feeds

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry 24(6): 1158-1161

ISSN/ISBN: 0021-8561

DOI: 10.1021/jf60208a037

Fresh artichoke waste trimmings were dehydrated in a pilot-scale Arnold dehydrator with and without prior mechanical dewatering. Dewatering increased the quantity of meal produced/m3 gas consumed by up to 80%. The CP content of the dehydrated meal ranged from 14.2 to 23.1%; dewatering and dehydration resulted in a slight reduction of protein and an increase in CF and acid-detergent fibre, acid-detergent lignin, and cellulose in the meal.
