Raspberry breeding for mechanical harvesting in northern Russia

In studies at the Moscow Institute of Horticulture, breeding lines obtained from the Scottish Horticultural Research Institute and East Malling Research Station (UK) proved to be the best sources of fruit firmness. Hybrids involving Rubus crataegifolius showed high resistance to fruit rot and had the ability to maintain good fruit quality for 6-12 days after ripening. R. odoratus has been used as a donor of immunity to Thomasiniana theobaldii and Didymella applanata.
