Relationships between mineral metabolism and rumen fermentation in sheep

Relationships between mineral metabolism and rumen fermentation in sheep

Japanese Journal of Zootechnical Science 47(5): 270-276

During 4 periods of 20 days 3 sheep weighing about 35 kg were given a diet in which ratio of concentrate to roughage was 90:10, 80:20, 70:30 and 60:40. The concentrate was flaked maize 90 and soya bean oilmeal 10% and the roughage rice straw; the diet also contained calcium carbonate 1 and NaCl 1%. As concentrate in the diet increased, Ca and P in urine rose significantly but P in faeces fell.
