Relationships of various physical and chemical characters to digestible energy in wheat and barley cultivars

Canadian Journal of Animal Science 54(3): 419-427

ISSN/ISBN: 0008-3984

DOI: 10.4141/cjas74-057

Seventeen cultivars of hard and soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and 29 cultivars of two-row and six-row barley (Hordeum distichum and H. vulgare) were taken for estimation of their bulk weight (BW), 1000-kernel weight (KW), plumpness, gross composition, amylose, gross energy (GE), beta -glucan (barley only) and sedimentation (wheat only). Digestibility and digestible energy were measured with mice.
