Relay toxicity: a new method of evaluating toxic effects of additives to animal feeds on the consumer

Relay toxicity: a new method of evaluating toxic effects of additives to animal feeds on the consumer

Deutsche Tieraerztliche Wochenschrift 83(5): 236-239

ISSN/ISBN: 0341-6593

The conventional procedure of the toxicologist is to test a suspect substance on a laboratory animal, e.g., the rat. That procedure is not necessarily adequate to test the effect on the human consumer of additives to the feed of domestic animals. Toxicity is not always the same for domestic animals as for the rat. Examples are cited of the differences between animals in their reaction to potentially poisonous substances.
