72 Red Steppe heifers, aged 14-15 mth, were used in the experiment. 35 heifers were fed for up to 3 mth on a ration containing 76-79% concentrates, daily intake being 6.8-8.0 kg dry matter. 37 heifers were given a ration containing 32-35% concentrates, daily intake being 7.4-9.4 kg. After 2 mth on the ration, the heifers were inseminated; all heifers were slaughtered 16-47 days after insemination.
