Reseeding of grassland. The effect of sowing depth and compaction on the development of perennial ryegrass

Reseeding of grassland. The effect of sowing depth and compaction on the development of perennial ryegrass

Bedrijfsontwikkeling 7(3): 175-178

In sowing trials with perennial ryegrass, best establishment was obtained by sowing 3-5 cm deep using a flax drill. Data are given on seed distribution in the soil using 4 machines and on trends in soil moisture content during establishment. In glasshouse trials in soil given adequate water at sowing only, best emergence of surface-sown seed was obtained by compacting the soil at 2 kg/cm2.
