1974
In field trials for mildew resistance in 1972 and 1973, varieties fell into three resistance groups. Glasshouse trials of breeding material involved nine races of Erysiphe graminis, three of Puccinia striiformis and two groups of P. graminis races; resistance to ear diseases and culm breakage was also investigated. Winter-wheat breeding with wheat-rye lines derived from Blaukorn lines resistant to most diseases has produced the variety General and the strain 623/65.
