Resistance of 22 southern hardwoods to wood-decay fungi and subterranean termites

Reports laboratory studies on the resistance of test blocks cut from normally unmerchantable stems (d.b.h. 6 inches) to the brown-rot fungus Lenzites trabea and to groups of 100 individuals of Reticulitermes flavipes. The amount of decay up to the time when control samples of Liquidambar styraciflua showed a weight loss of ca. 60% ranged from 8% for Quercus marilandica and Q. alba to 67% for Acer rubrum.
