In a large screening programme between 1972 and 1976, the hybrids HSF459/70, HS415, HSF452 and HSF1084 were identified as having a low degree of attack by H. turcicum (Trichometasphaeria turcica). Of lysine-rich hybrids, G29/74, HSF400/73, HDF668/75 and HSF387/73 were noted as being relatively free from attack. Of 839 lines tested in 1976, 118 had degrees of attack varying between 0 and 20%. Line 2769/76 had the lowest attack under artificial or natural infection.
