Resistance to Fasciola hepatica in cattle I. Parasitological and serological observations

Resistance to Fasciola hepatica in cattle I. Parasitological and serological observations

Journal of Comparative Pathology 88(1): 115-122

Cattle were found to be highly resistant to reinfection after an initial infection resulting from a dose of 1,000 Fasciola hepatica had been terminated by anthelmintic treatment 3 or 22 weeks previously. Evidence for this was found in an 82% reduction in the fluke burden of reinfected animals compared with controls which received only the 2nd infection, and in the much smaller size of the flukes recovered from the reinfected animals compared with the controls.
