Two liver-specific enzymes in the plasma of young cattle were used to study resistance to re-infection with Fasciola hepatica. Although plasma glutamate dehydrogenase and gamma -glutamyltransferase activities rose sharply after infection with 1,000 metacercariae of F. hepatica, re-infection 35 or 54 weeks later (the first infection had been eliminated by fasciolicides after 31 and 32 weeks) produced no such effect.
