Resistance to aging of glued joints in wood, with reference to resorcinol-formaldehyde gluing in boat building

Resistance to aging of glued joints in wood, with reference to resorcinol-formaldehyde gluing in boat building

Holz als Roh und Werkstoff 34(3): 83-86

The quality of gluing of laminated members consisting of combinations of Douglas Fir, Oak, Iroko and Utile glued with resorcinol-formaldehyde resin was examined after seven years' service in a boat, by measurements of shear strength and % wood failure, and the results were compared with those of an accelerated test. Factors other than glue-line strength which affect shear strength are considered.
