Resistance to air pollution in Norway spruce (Picea abies). 3. Tolerance of toxic materials ('internal' resistance)

Resistance to air pollution in Norway spruce (Picea abies). 3. Tolerance of toxic materials ('internal' resistance)

European Journal of Forest Pathology 7(4; 5): 236-249; 303-319

The following characters were compared between SO2-resistant (R) and non-resistant (N) clones the relationship between needle discoloration and the amount of S absorbed after SO2-gassing; the pH and buffer capacity of needles with and without gassing treatment; the distribution of S among different cell fractions, and among shoots in different parts of the plant; and the ratio of organic S/total S, and the contents of -SH groups, protein and chlorophyll in the needles.
