In crosses of Damara (a resistant variety) with Cuba 108 and BG52-1 (both weekly resistant) and with 91-62 (susceptible) studied in the F1, F2 and F3 (the latter derived from selfing resistant plants of the F2), the segregations, obtained by classifying the plants as resistant, susceptible or very susceptible, could mostly be explained by assuming the action of two genes, present either singly or together conferring resistance when dominant, and of a third epistatic dominant gene suppressing the action of either of the other two genes but not of both together.
