Resistance to chlortetracycline, streptomycin and furazolidone of Escherichia coli strains isolated from laying hens in producing and breeding flocks

Resistance to chlortetracycline, streptomycin and furazolidone of Escherichia coli strains isolated from laying hens in producing and breeding flocks

Documenta Veterinaria 8(3): 193-203

Of 253 E. coli strains isolated from laying hens 79% (67-88%) of strains from breeding flocks and 74% (43-100%) of strains from producing flocks were resistant to chlortetracycline, while only 4% of E. coli strains were resistant to streptomycin and furazolidone, taking both kinds of flocks together. Chlortetracycline-resistant strains were found in all 15 flocks under study. The incidence of resistance, however, varied from flock to flock, ranging between 43 and 100%.
