Resistance to green leaf hoppers in rice

Screening tests for susceptibility to Nephotettix virescens (Dist.) and N. nigropictus (Stal) were carried out with different varieties of rice in the greenhouse at Bangalore in India. N. virescens proved to be the more injurious of the two species. Varietal susceptibility to this leafhopper was not always the same in seedlings as in mature plants, but one variety (Ptb.2) proved resistant in all tests.
