Resistance to ketosis during prolonged fasting by rats fed on a diet containing undecanoic acid, an odd-carbon-number fatty acid

Resistance to ketosis during prolonged fasting by rats fed on a diet containing undecanoic acid, an odd-carbon-number fatty acid

British Journal of Nutrition 35(1): 41-46

Male rats were fed for 6 weeks on a nutritionally complete diet with 30% of its energy as fat; for 32 control rats the fat was maize oil and for 32 experimental rats it was triundecanoin-maize oil (7:3, w/w). Rats were starved for 1 to 4 days before being killed. In the experimental group, adipose tissue contained, on average, undecanoic acid 246 mmol/mol total fatty acids, but the adipose tissue of the control group did not contain odd-carbon fatty acids.
