Resistance to sycamore anthracnose disease in hybrid Platanus

Resistance to sycamore anthracnose disease in hybrid Platanus

Plant Disease Reporter 60(2): 161-162

From 1968 to 1970, controlled interspecific crosses were made in the genus Platanus, recreating the London plane (P. occidentalis X P. orientalis) and also crossing the western American species with P. occidentalis and P. orientalis. P. orientalis was found to be highly resistant to Gnomonia platani and hybrids between this species and the susceptible P. occidentalis were also highly resistant.
