Resistant Indian wheats hold promising future

Resistant Indian wheats hold promising future

Agricultural Research, USA 24(1): 10

Of 1536 varieties from the world collection at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, 53 showed resistance to Sitophilus oryzae and of 1256 varieties from the same collection, 48 were resistant to Rhizopertha dominica; seven varieties were resistant to both species. In preliminary tests in the USA involving some of these varieties, two varieties of Indian parentage, PI322275 and PI323343, and Kalyan Sona displayed tolerance of S. oryzae.
