Resistant trial of sugarcane culmicolous smut in Taiwan

Resistant trial of sugarcane culmicolous smut in Taiwan

Taiwan Sugar 24(2): 321

A method is described in which plants 2-5 cm high were pricked at the base with a row of five needles prior to brushing with a heavy teleutospore suspension of Ustilago scitaminea. Repeated inoculations of a series of varieties with known reactions to infection gave some varied results. High temperatures shortened the incubation period following inoculation.
