12. Age is an important factor in the process of thiamin resorption in the small intestine of rats. Thiamin transport rate through the intestinal wall is significantly lower in rats 26 months old than in rats 3.5 months old. Alkaline phosphatase activity in the small intestine mucosa and the rate of thiamin resorption change in the same direction. Thiamin monophosphate, thiamin diphosphate and free thiamin in the intestinal mucosa were less in the older than in the young rats.
