Resources of grazing fodder in the Karakum region

Resources of grazing fodder in the Karakum region

Ekonomika Sel' skogo Khozyaistva (9): 75-79

Grazing areas in the Karakum Desert show great seasonal differences in growth of feed crops and also considerable swings in yield from year to year. This often results in big losses among the astrakhan sheep herds kept in these areas. The investigations show that skillful adjustment of livestock numbers to the current grazing fodder supplies and adding supplementary fodder grown on irrigated land can increase the livestock density.
