Respiration and ethylene production in mammee apple (Mammea americana L.)

Respiration and ethylene production in mammee apple (Mammea americana L.)

Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science 103(3): 308-310

Gas chromatography and bioassays were used to identify ethylene (C2H4) in fruit emanations. C2H4 production probably triggered the respiratory rise in pre-climacteric fruit and its relationship to respiration was typical of that for a climacteric fruit. C2H4 production was, however, independent of respiration in immature and post-climacteric fruits.
