, : Respiration of Grand Rapids lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) seeds in relation to chemical and photocontrol of germination. Plant and Cell Physiology 18(1): 1-8

A 10-min irradiation with red light (R) increased respiration rates more than far-red light (FR); the difference was evident by 2-3 h and increased with time. Impregnation of seeds with 1.0 mM GA3 + 0.5 mM kinetin in acetone to promote germination, followed by air drying, stimulated respiration at 25 deg C, the effect being noticeable after 6 h and marked by 12-24 h. Results with GA3 + kinetin dissolved in water were similar.
