Respiratory activity and oxidative phosphorylation in muscle mitochondria of swine with different survival rates

Respiratory activity and oxidative phosphorylation in muscle mitochondria of swine with different survival rates

Zeitschrift fur Tierzuchtung und Zuchtungsbiologie 94(1): 76-83

Isolated mitochondria were obtained from two groups of pigs which differed mortality rate during rearing, feeding and transport. In both groups respiratory activity ( mu g atoms oxygen/min/g protein) was approximately the same at all stages except stage 4 (consumption of exogenous ADP), when consumption of oxygen was much lower in pigs with high mortality than in those with low mortality. Control of cell respiration was much lower in high-mortality than in low-mortality pigs.
