Respiratory activity during leaf development in tall fescue

Respiratory activity during leaf development in tall fescue

Welsh Plant Breeding Station: UK, Welsh Plant Breeding Station: Report for 1974: 82-83

Dark respiration rate and activities of 3 respiratory enzymes were followed during development of the 5th leaf of tall fescue S170 grown at 25 deg C in 16-h photoperiods at 80 W/m2 visible radiation. There was a high respiration rate throughout the leaf blade prior to emergence of the tip, and in the basal portion before emergence of the ligule, presumably associated with growth respiration.
