Respiration decreased by 90-95% in rice seeds which had lost germinability due to long-term storage. The specific activities of malate dehydrogenase, glutamate dehydrogenase and alcohol dehydrogenase decreased by 40-60% in the embryos of dead, dry seeds; activities of the terminal oxidases of respiratory cycle (peroxidase and cytochrome oxidase) also considerably decreased in them.
