Respiratory insufficiency due to disseminated strongyloidiasis in immunosuppressed patients

Respiratory insufficiency due to disseminated strongyloidiasis in immunosuppressed patients

Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de Sao Paulo 18(4): 283-291

Two patients with kidney transplants followed by immuno-suppressive treatment in Brazil died 46 or 75 days later with acute respiratory failure. At autopsy, intense infection with Strongyloides stercoralis was found. Rhabditiform larvae were distributed throughout the body but especially in the lungs, liver, large and small intestines and lymphatic ganglia.
