Respiratory syncytial virus and respiratory disorders in cattle

Respiratory syncytial virus and respiratory disorders in cattle

Annales de Medecine Veterinaire 119(6): 359-369

Bovine respiratory syncytial virus is the commonest agent of respiratory disease of cattle in the cold months of the year in Belgium. Of 291 paired serum samples, 40.5% were positive for this agent, compared with 10.3% for PI-3 virus and lower rates for other respiratory viruses. The infection is characterized by an influenza-like syndrome, followed by sudden deaths due to acute pulmonary emphysema.
