In trials with dwarf wheat Kalyan Sona in 1968-70, irrigations based on the values for evaporation from the US open-pan evaporimeter in the range 300-100 mm (4-12 irrigations) gave similar grain yields of 3.36-3.77 t/ha in 1968-9 and 3.4-3.76 t/ha in 1969-70, indicating that 4-5 irrigations based on 75-100 mm evaporation from the open-pan evaporimeter were adequate for Kalyan Sona and the efficiency of moisture use was highest in this treatment.
