Response of American cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) to the residues of 2,4-D applied to wheat in the cotton-wheat sequence

Bioassay studies were carried out in 1970-71 and 1972-73 to investigate the persistence of the sodium or amine salts of 2,4-D, applied in wheat at 0.8 kg/ha, and of 2,4-D ethyl ester at 0.4 kg/ha in a loamy sand soil of 0.2% o.m. content. 2,4-D residues produced no signs of injury in cotton sown 15-16 weeks after the spraying of the wheat; rather the plant height and seed cotton yield were higher in the sprayed plots.
