Response of Chianon shen 11 and some newly developed resistant selections to artificial and natural brown planthopper populations

The response of Chianon shen 11, a newly developed variety of rice resistant to Nilaparvata lugens (Stal), and several other resistant selections to artificial and natural infestations by the pest was determined in laboratory and field tests in Taiwan. The main resistance mechanism of Chianon shen 11 and some of the other resistant selections was found to be non-preference and, to a lesser extent, tolerance of attacks, rather than antibiosis.
