Response of Drosophila pavani, Drosophila gaucha and their hybrids to larval biotic residues

Response of Drosophila pavani, Drosophila gaucha and their hybrids to larval biotic residues

Experientia 31(7): 781-782

Laboratory investigations were carried out on the neotropical Drosophilids Drosophila pavani Brncic and D. gaucha Jaeger & Salzano, which hybridise in a small zone in Argentina and produce abundant but sterile offspring. 'Conditioning' of the rearing medium by larvae of either species or their hybrids inhibited the growth of larvae of D. pavani and of the hybrids. The survival from egg to adult of D. gaucha was affected only by conditioning by its own species.
