In trials with flue-cured Virginia tobacco on black soils, 2 irrigations at the depletion of available soil moisture contents to 60% and application of 40 kg N/ha was the most effective in increasing yields and quality, provided the chloride contents of soil and irrigation water were <100 and 20 ppm, respectively.
