Response of HYV rice to potassium in the long-term fertilizer trials in the Philippines

In 1968 a series of long-term NPK trials were initiated at three locations in the Philippines. Nitrogen proved highly effective at all locations but its efficiency declined over the years in the plots without P and K. In the absence of phosphorus, the addition of potassium tended to decrease the tiller number. In the presence of phosphorus, however, increasing responses to potassium could be observed.
