Response of Japanese honeysuckle to management in the Arkansas Ozarks

Response of Japanese honeysuckle to management in the Arkansas Ozarks

Proceedings of the Twenty Ninth Annual Conference, Southeastern Association of Game and Fish Commissioners: 370-373

In April 1968, Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) was sown on 4 small clearings located in upland hardwood and pine-hardwood forest types in the Ozark Mountains of N.-central Arkansas. Yield increased steadily from 1969 to maturity and from 1972 to '74 the honeysuckle consistently yielded >2.0 t leaves and twigs/ha. Leaves contributed 41-66% of the total growth annually. Applied N significantly increased total vegetative yield and CP content of leaves.
