Response of Triticum durum Desf. and Triticum aestivum L. wheats to different levels of irrigation

In trials with T. durum Raj 911 and HD 4519 and T. aestivum Kalyan Sona, 4 irrigations at the crown-root initiation, late tillering, earing and milk-ripe stages increases average grain yields to 5 t/ha in 1972-3 and to 4.79 t in 1973-4 from 2.81 and 1.76 t, respectively, without irrigation by increasing tillering, grain weight/ear and 1000-grain weight; 1-3 irrigations gave lower yields.
