Response of blue huckleberry to prescribed fires in a western Montana larch/fir forest

In a Larix occidentalis/Pseudotsuga menziesii forest, 11 plots were burned in autumn and 9 in spring. Multiple regression analyses showed that the numbers of blue huckleberry (Vaccinium globulare) stems present 1 and 2 years after fire were correlated most closely with the number present before fire; several relationships with environmental, fuel and fire characteristics were also significant.
