Response of cocksfoot cultivars to nitrogen under different cutting systems

In trials with 6 cocksfoot cultivars cut once in the 1st year and 2 or 4 times in following years and given 20, 40, 80, 160 or 320 kg N/ha annually, the N X cutting and cultivar X cutting interactions were significant, but the N X cultivar interaction was not. High yields were associated with early maturity and Potomac and Kitamidori gave high yields with both cutting managements, while Latar gave higher yields with 2 cuts than with 4 and Masshardy gave higher yields with 4 cuts than with 2.
