Response of cotton pollen to gamma irradiation



Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding 36(1): 16-19



In three varieties of Gossypium hirsutum and one of G. barbadense, emasculated flowers were pollinated by gamma -irradiated pollen. Boll set and the percentage of filled seeds were reduced and the percentage of empty seeds and motes (unfertilized ovules) were increased. The pollen of G. barbadense appeared to be more radiosensitive than that of G. hirsutum.
