Response of cotton to nitrogen and water in a tropical environment. 3. Fibre quality

In 2 trials, 3 dates for time of last irrigation were combined factorially with 4 N application rates and 2 cultivars of cotton. Early termination of watering when the crop had set 70 bolls/m2 combined with application of 168 and 225 kg N/ha decreased fibre strength, micronaire and yarn strength, particularly in 1972. In 2 other trials, 3 irrigaton frequencies were combined factorially with several N application rates.
