Response of dairy cows fed either corn, grain or forage sorghum silages with concentrate rations of different protein content

All combinations of 4 silages and 3 concentrates (20, 32 and 40% crude protein) were fed to Holstein-Friesian cows. Concentrates did not affect milk yield or composition significantly. Maize silage produced significantly more milk than did silage from grain sorghum or a forage sorghum (20.9 vs. 18.1 and 18.0 kg/day).
